Meet QAS Audit Manager Shelley Porter
Shelley Porter CPA, MBA (Acc), B Bus (Ag), Registered Company Auditor (ASIC)
QAS Audit Manager Shelley Porter took the unusual step of finishing university and plunging headfirst into an audit career. At the time, her first employer, KPMG in Darwin, saw something that the agribusiness graduate was yet to appreciate – a keen eye for detail.
Shelley’s stint in Darwin had her auditing with two major firms and logging some serious interstate and overseas travel during that time.
It was only after becoming established as a qualified auditor that accounting beckoned. Shelley backtracked her study by completing an MBA at the University of New England and was then able to get her CPA qualification under her belt to become a bona fide accountant!
In 2010 Shelley farewelled the Northern Territory to join the team at Queensland Audit Services in Dalby.
Throughout her career Shelley has obtained formidable experience auditing both small and large companies, not for profit organisations, trust accounts, self-managed super funds, auditor general, joint ventures and indigenous corporations.
The updates to audit practice and technology have kept Shelley on her toes.
“Today’s auditors need to be multi-skilled,” says Shelley. “With so many different clients we need to be flexible processing their audit data which comes to us in varying formats.”
“And, with everything to being online, it means QAS can audit a client in Perth from any of our Queensland offices and they’ll receive the same high-quality work and communication as one of our locally based clients.”
